This two minute video clip was filmed on Tuesday, May 2, 1978 at the GMC Truck & Coach plant in Pontiac, MI. and broadcast on WXYZ-TV's Channel 7 Action News.

On May 2, 1978, the Southeastern Michigan Transportation Authority (SEMTA) and GMC Truck & Coach held ceremonies to unveil to the media the first five SEMTA "Series 03" RTS-II coaches that were earmarked for the Detroit Department Of Transportation (DDOT). Meanwhile, WXYZ-TV Channel 7 reporter Jack McCarthy went behind the scenes at the Pontiac facility to take a sneak-peak at the inner workings of a wheel-chair lift RTS still under construction. .

In the Fall of 1977, GMC
Truck & Coach held a
media event to show-off the
first RTS (Rapid Transit
Series) bus fleet to roll off
the assembly line.
In May of 1978, SEMTA &
GMC unveiled the first five
D-DOT RTS coaches to the
media. Also, a sneak-peak
at the inner workings of the
wheel-chair lift on the RTS.

GRUMMAN-FLXIBLE
"870" CRACKED
A-FRAME PROBLEMS
In December of 1980, over
2,600 Grumman 870 buses
were taken out of service
across the country to repair
cracked A-frames. ABC
World News Tonight reports.
During the summer of
1978, the first wheel-chair
lift equipped RTS coach
was delivered to the Detroit
Department Of
Transportation (DDOT).
Beginning In June of 1978,
the first fleet of RTS (Rapid
Transit Series) Advanced
Design Buses began
operating along the streets
of Detroit.
