Thirty-one clean-diesel New Flyer Xcelsior® Model XD40
coaches were purchased through $13 million in CMAQ
(Congestion Mitigation & Air Quality Improvement) funds
designed to provide funding for clean bus projects.
Fleet sports the first redesigned DDOT paint scheme
change since 1989, and the first DDOT fleet to be
equipped with a Sportworks Trilogy™ (DL3) 3-position
bicycle rack. Features include LED headlights, an
automotive-style electronic dash, improved interior styling
with New Flyer (TCB) 24V LED lighting; a Cummins ISL9
280HP diesel engine and an Allison B400R transmission.

FTA’s Ladders to Opportunity program (plus a 20% state
match grant). DDOT XD40 fleet equipped with Mobile
Climate Control (formerly Carrier) Eco Xcel rooftop HVAC
units. Delivery of #1500-series fleet began in mid-March.

Model XDE40 clean diesel hybrid electric coaches.
Similar in appearance to the XD40s, the hybrids are
powered by a Cummins ISL 330 (Hybrid) diesel engine
with an electrical Allison Hybrid EP System and Drive
Unit. Delivery of the hybrid fleet began in early April.
